Cervix Coagulator is intended for the treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix by thermal ablation in a single session. Thermal ablation is achieved by contacting the transformation zone of the cervix with a form-fitting thermo probe, which transfers heat to the abnormal cells and destroys them by boiling. The destroyed cells are discharged and normal healthy tissue can regrow instead. The treatment is finished within less than 2 minutes and poses no risk to the patient.
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women worldwide, with about 500 000 new patients diagnosed and over 250 000 deaths every year. It is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among women mainly in Low-Resource-Settings (LRS). Cervical Cancer develops from a pre-cancer stage called CIN.
CIN is the potentially Premalignant transformation and abnormal growth (dysplasia) of squamous cells on the surface of the cervix. CIN is not cancer, and is usually curable.
The treatment of CIN partly depends on whether it is grade 1, 2 or 3. Often, cells showing CIN 1 will return to normal without any treatment. All doctors and researchers agree that CIN 2 and 3 should be treated. The aim of treatments of CIN 2 and 3 is to remove the abnormal area while causing as little damage as possible to surrounding healthy tissue. It’s also possible to destroy the abnormal cells, rather than remove them, this is called ablation.
